Running The Race & Mentoring Future Leaders
In the year 2015, I was interviewing global leaders regarding the greatest challenges facing their country. One leader from Cairo, Egypt, said their greatest challenge wasn’t ISIS, it was young people leaving the church. Joshua Crossman from the Pinetops Foundation wrote a stirring research report which forecasted that unless something changes in the American landscape, fifty percent of all churches in the United States will close by 2050.
Michel Faulkner brings his unique perspective to the conversation as a former NFL football player, an inner-city youth pastor and lead pastor in Manhattan, and a trusted thought leader regarding the next generation. He has been Vice President at two Christian Universities. His insights in this book give an important perspective on the current challenges facing the next generation. Michel also sees important signs of hope.
Church historians tell us that most great movements are started by leaders under the age of 28. We need to become fluent with the current realities facing young people even as we identify those in the next generation that can lead all of us forward. The Joshua Generation points us toward this more hopeful future.

In his book The Joshua Generation, Michel Faulkner has introduced a brilliant concept of how the current generation can help advance the next generation through mentorship early in their development, learning to share power by collaborative decision making, and cultivating leadership abilities. This empowers young people to be good stewards and positively influence their communities.
